That Morning at Haakgat
The first visitors arrive early in the morning to watch the show. The set is the beach of Haakgat. A spot on the West Cape of South Africa.
A morning with decent size waves and wind from the right direction.
It attracts the wave minded kiteboarders. Looking for their extra thrill, besides controlling the kite, managing to ride the wave and hit it in the sweetspot.
This is RRD teamrider Abel Lago.
One of the top wave riders of the world with a kite.
Riding along the line..
And hitting it at it's most vulnerable point.
The size is decent. Not the size to go out for a swim.
But the size to bring out the jetski.
Shooting the action of the RRD team with local Luke McGillewie showing how it's done.
And if you see you can't make it...
...Exit in style.
This rider was at the top of the game.
His name is Ralf Bachschuster, riding Cabrinha, and he rides as if the wave is totally predictable. Hitting the sweetspots like he already sorted them out on Google Maps.
Waiman Hawaii Rider Chris Immers seems to have his hand going along that wall.
Bachschuster, take a look at his riding if you get the chance to visit the West Coast of South Africa.
An another sweetspot to smile over when riding back home.
The wipe-outs in these 3-4-5 meter waves are not the ones you want to experience.
There was only one girl out that morning. Dutch Suzanne Kuiper taking on the best wave of the day on her backside.
Dutch Floris-Jan goes for a left-over that tastes pretty good actually.
Floris goes back for more.
And gets what he came for.
Just some example to show you the size of wave that day.
I say 5.
Abel for one last exit.
And then the walk back on the beach. Beautiful morning at Haakgat.
